DAN HAMMOND (Area Manager Downham and Methwold)

Dan played for local team Three Holes & Unwell Youth from 1991-1996 as well as Norwich City FC from 1994-1996. He then started a 8 year spell with Cambridge United FC and was a ever present player at youth and reserve team level. Was part of the a successful Cambridge United youth team playing against the likes of present England International Aaron Lennon and beating Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium. Unfortunately he was not offered a Professional contract, despite representing England Schoolboys in the year 2000 against Wales playing alongside a certain Wayne Rooney!. After numerous trials with football league clubs Rushden and Diamonds and Falkirk he was loaned out to local side Kings Lynn at the end of the 03-04 season. The club gained promotion into the Southern Premier League winning the Eastern division with Dan being at the heart of the Kings Lynn defence and with it he secured a two year contract.

It was after joining the ‘Linnets’ that he was offered the role as Downham Market and Methwold Area Manager for the clubs Community Football Scheme. Having achieved the relative qualifications whilst with Cambridge United he began to work on developing football in the area along side playing for the club on a part-time basis. Over the last 2-3 years he has coached in numerous school’s in and around Downham Market and runs a very successful Player Development Centre every week from which boys and girls of all ages have progressed into the scheme’s advanced sides. He signed for Stamford of the Southern Premier League in the summer of 2006 and after playing for Wisbech Town in the 4th qualifying round of this year’s FA Cup he is presently on loan from Stamford at Ridgeons League outfit Diss Town FC.
